Love The Drake

Okay, remember this painting from my post on Monday?

Well, I have decided that it is high time I see the real thing.

And it is here:

In Chicago. Too close to not go see.

So the plot begins for a road trip. Girls?

If you're game, I'll get a room here:

At The Drake.

Yep. I will.

And I will bring identical outfits for all of us, composed of these:

The J. Peterman dress, ironically called The Portrait Dress. Though he intended it for portrait sitting, I think he will not mind if we use it, collectively, for portrait viewing. Can't you just see all of us standing, arms crossed, clad in black, nodding in appreciation at the painting? I love it. A portrait of its own.

And, sorry to steal your copy for my own site, Mr. Peterman, but I JUST HAVE to post what you wrote about this dress. . .

"Indian summer in Newport, the two of them alone in the artist’s studio filled with north light.

There’s a somewhat solemn stillness about her as she sits in the wing-backed tapestry chair.

He touches her cheek to turn her head slightly, peers intently at her. He presses her shoulders back, his eyes just inches from hers.

Good, she’s smiling now, and ah, look at that.

He returns to the easel and reaches for a tube of alizaran crimson to capture the faint blush that is emerging."

Seriously, who could resist buying this dress now? I need a fan. And a cold glass of water.

Okay, back to the plan.

And we'll need these:

And, of course, these:

And a few of these—for a punch of color. After all, we must represent.

And like a very well dressed version of Madeline and her classmates, we will traipse our way through the art institute in zig-zag fashion, until we find Breton's painting, and my scythe-wielding counterpart.

And there will most likely, considering my luck lately, be a sign that announces it is on loan in Dayton, Ohio or some other depressing town. But we'll still have fun.

So who's coming with me?

I'm in with you and rings 90, but can I wear my J Crew coat instead????

Miss Ive said...

No, no J.Crew for this weekend. At the Drake, only Peterman garb will be permitted. I admit, I do slum in pieces from the 'lesser J' on occasion—while cleaning my gutters, cooking with grease, etc., but the Drake has standards.

Very sorry, J.F.

I so know this was you. Trouble maker! AND YOU ARE COMING!!! You're my Chicago girl, after all.

I'll make you a deal Miss Ive . .. If J Peterman is paying for The Drake . . . I might be able to put my J Crew away for one weekend!!!

Miss Ive said...

J.F.,

I'll take your deal, and I'll raise you. If J. Peterman pays for The Drake, I'll put my J.Crew away for one year. Which means I'll have only 10 things left in my closet. Could be a cold winter, but I'll survive.

Oh, yeah, you're in. This would be right up your alley.

How fun! Now we just have to pick a date.

I'm thinking mid-December. Christmas shopping time.

I like that your art admiring is now coinciding with Christmas shopping. Very slick.

There is nothing more beautiful than the Mag Mile outfitting in holiday splendor.

Missy, sounds GOOD! I have so many JP dresses, but I'm in for whatever works. THE DRAKE, OMG. Let's keep this going. My fall semester ends the 15th of December or thereabouts. You know I'm crazy and romantic and impulsive as hell. I'd love to meet you all too-we would SO have a great time!

*sigh* fine, I'll leave the J.Crew at home...hope Gap is acceptable though because if we're doing Chicago in December the cashmere hoodie is essential for moi.

I'll go if you wear the skirt you're wearing in your pic!

Am laughing at this last post! Changed my profile pic yesterday, specifically because of that ill-placed skirt hem! And then I found this note. Too funny.

And remember, the trip is for the ladies, not the skirt chasers. Really, sir.

This whole thread is making me want to shop.

I have NO J. Crew, so that won't be a problem. J. Peterman will predominate, I'll keep my Neiman Marcus and Peruvian Connection and Sundance stuff for slumming lol.

Already have the beret and gloves, of course, and lovely jewelry for a touch of individuality of course. My shoes? I know you're wondering...Born T-straps, spool heels, black of course. Very 1940s. Or perhaps the sophisticated Mary Janes? I'll bring both.

Jeez, shoulda proofread, can't stop saying 'of course'!

Miss Ive said...

Um, Miss Olivia, you should know that there is no proofreading allowed on Miss Ive's site. Purely hedonistic writing here. Very Henry Miller-esque. Never apologize. Loved your posts. Really.

MissIve, this from Georgia, who just had the opportunity to come here and see YOU WORE MY DRESS, MY BERET, MY GLOVES. Which begs the question, how did I manage to avoid an invitation? And I adore Chicago, have but once been in that museum (and the several others).

Well good taste you have, as does JP> Did you or he choose the dresses?
